Hi all,
I am in the Boston area, and was wondering if there were other New England thrifters out there, and if so, what are your favorite haunts?

Re: Thrifting in New England
Thu, November 2, 2006 - 5:32 PMim new here, but the garment district in cambridge is pretty sweet. more vintage than thrift, but lots of stuff and prices arent bad. and they have a "buck a pound" pile.
i like the goodwill at davis square pretty well too. -

Sat, November 4, 2006 - 5:43 AMI haven't been to Goodwill at Davis Square, but have been to Central Square and other locations. I will have to check it out. I have been going to the Garment District since I was in high school (88-92) but haven't been much in recent years. anyway, thanks for the tip about goodwill.

Fri, November 3, 2006 - 3:29 PMThe Saint Vincent chain is very good. I know the Framingham location has certain color tags on sale for 99ยข at any given time.

Sat, November 4, 2006 - 5:40 AMCool thanks, I actually have been to the ones in Stoughton and Plainville but didn't know there was one in Framingham, I was just there yesterday to go to the Salvation Army. Had no idea there was a St. Vincents nearby -

Re: Thrifting in New England
Sun, November 5, 2006 - 1:20 PMThe Salvation Army used to be someplace with good deals. Ever since the internet and eBay, the pickings have become slim. I know someone who volunteered at that branch and saw what really goes on there. Donations are sorted and anything deemed "good" or "valuable" are boxed up and trucked out to a central location. From what he found out, much of that stuff never makes it into the storefronts, much less the one its donated to. St. Vincents is a much smaller organization so hopefully, its a bit more grass roots. -

Thu, March 22, 2007 - 5:13 AMIf you really shop around you can find some churches that have thrift stores that are usually run by older women and they are usually open on Saturday.

Re: Thrifting in New England
Tue, April 10, 2007 - 8:08 AMSavers: VFW Parkway, West Roxbury. My all-time favorite thrift store. I've been shopping there for at least 10 years; practically my entire wardrobe came from there, at least half my furniture and most of my kitchen and general household items. I also find the vast majority of items I use in crafting there, plus fabrics for sewing projects. It is truly the best all-around thrift store I've ever seen. And, icing on the cake, it is well-organized, has VERY low prices and holds weekly "color-tag" sales (eg: all blue tags 50% off, or all orange tags $1). Check it out - you won't be sorry.

Re: Thrifting in New England
Wed, July 11, 2007 - 9:30 AMI'm in Boston, too--Brighton/Allston area. Urban Renewals in Allston is great. They've got tons of cheap clothes, daily sales, books, household stuff, etc. I've only been here a year, so I don't know much else. Plus, I'm limited to places near the T since I'm carless here. Anyone know anyplace between downtown Boston and Brighton?
