I have discovered, much to my delight, that some thrift stores are the best places in the world to hang out with my toddler. There is one in particular where I shop that has a kid area where he can play to his heart's content with bins full of stuff, we can always get something, it doesn't matter if he breaks something, there are usually other kids there, and when he's done with that he can look at other things in the store and if he breaks something I can afford to pay for it.
Anyone else take their kids thrifting? It just seems right now lie the most kid friendly place I can find (restaurants are OUT, as are most friend's homes, etc.).

Re: Thrifting with Kids
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 1:53 PMI always took my kids to the thrift store. That's where we bought school clothes! LOL
Actually, I loved to go with my daughter to the mall and LOOK at the "in" clothes. Then we go to the thrift and BUY the "in" clothes. If something wasn't right, she learned how to reconstruct it. If she cut it up and it didn't work, it didn't matter because we only spent cents on it. She's become an expert at that!
Now I take my granddaughter!

Re: Thrifting with Kids
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 3:28 PMMy son is almost 12 and has been thrifting all his life. It's like a big treasure hunt and he's accumulated a couple of nice collections because of it. We even made a special stop at a couple of Goodwills on our vacation this summer, to see how the thrifting was in Seattle compared to Portland. -

Sun, August 19, 2007 - 9:23 AMNow that's a dream vacation to me!!! Checking thrift stores in other cities. I wish my boy had more retail-stamina. I've taken him a couple times, but he just doesn't get the whole treasure hunt idea like I do. Sigh......

Re: Thrifting with Kids
Sat, September 15, 2007 - 5:41 PMI take my grandson too now. Todays find was a brand new Carter onesie for 50 cents (12 months size). I snatched a brand new winter wardrobe (one navy blue suit), one black suit, two black jackets and six shirts and blouses (total $10.75) spent for the day. Tomorrow I will go thru the rest of my winter items and check what I don't need. I can redonate at that price.

Re: Thrifting with Kids
Sun, September 23, 2007 - 9:39 PMmy 4 yr old loves going thrifting with me - especially to the toy aisles! the local shop does *stuff bags* of similair small items for $1-2.. we've picked up a nice sand-toy collection for the park, a bag of loose legos and the always popular hotwheel/matchbox cars way cheaper than i ever could at toys r us.
